Luna is a miracle dog. Last week I got a phone call from a vet. Luna had been taken to the E-clinic because she ate rocks. See picture above. They said she needed surgery and it would be $2500. The owners said no and took her back to their own vet to be euthanized. She was out of town and the relief vet called me. I said, *well, take another x-ray and see if the rocks are moving.* so they did and she said they hadn’t moved. The owner said she eats rocks all the time. I will not write here what I thought in response to that.

I said, *well, why don’t you take her home and see if these pass?* she said she had already told her children that luna was not coming back and she wanted to be *responsible* and she was not going to take her home.

I figured that I wasn’t in the business of letting dogs die, so I went and got her. I figured we would sort it out. I was a little concerned because we certainly do not have $2500 in our account, But I figured we would just play it by ear.

The e-clinic had given her Flagil which made her nauseous so she was not willing to eat. I thought, well, she has to eat if the stones are going to move. So I took her off the Flagil and give her hamburger and sweet potato. I figured the fiber would expand her colon.

My vet was not in until Tues. Luna wasn’t vomiting, was not in pain but had not pooped. We went in and did another xray.

the rocks were moving. The vet took her in the back, came out in 5 minutes and said, *ok, she is set to go*. Luna had a little help and pooped out all 15 rocks.

We came back here. She was so scared, she wouldn’t even come out of the kennel when the door was open. She is so loving, and was soooo skittish. I borrowed one of the rescue puppies from last year for some play dates. She looks like Luna’s cousin which made Luna estatic. She is learning to play. She loves Larry, Mo and Curley.
She is going to make someone a great dog. She needs someone who is patient and gentle and who has no rock landscaping in the yard.

email if you think she would be a good match. I will get pictures soon. She is really, really pretty. She is about three.

Barney is a 2 year old male who love kids, loves dogs, loves cats and even hangs with chickens without concern. I will get his picture up shortly.

Barney wants to be with his people and can break through a fence is he is left outside alone. He ran from his original home because they just threw him outside and didn’t spend any time with him.

He has been chipped, has all his shots and will be neutered. He is very loving, is committed to doing whatever his people want to do. He is a super boy.

Unfortuneately Barney had a very untimely end. He started having uncontrolled seizures and did not survive.

I have heard from a number of you about volunteering to help out and I apologize for my delay in getting back to you. Here is what we are needing:

***puppy socializers <smile>. Whew we just word that we are getting 6 puppies. This means we need lots of help in playing with them, cleaning up, etc.

1) We need people who are willing to come and work with an individual dog. We want to clicker train the dogs to sit, walk on a leash and not leap around, LOL. What your job would be is to learn something about clicker training…I recommend getting Peggy Tillman’s book called Clicking With your Dog. Long Leash on LIfe has it. While you are there, look at the stuff. Maybe even get a DVD. Go online and watch youtube so you can get the idea. I will help too.

My thinking is that if you learn this, you can come and work with one dog – your buddy. This is what will make the dogs most adoptable.

2) We also need people to take specific dogs walking or running. And…part of the dilemma is that the dogs who need it most are the dogs who don’t know how. Sometimes people come thinking that these are dogs that just need a walk. Sometimes that is true LOL, and sometimes they need to learn how. And the dogs are muddy and hairy so wear jeans.

3) Some of the dogs would love to go on an outing, maybe for a trip to Flying Star or a walk on the ditch. You can see if there is a dog that you think would suit your chemistry, email me and let’s chat.

4) We are looking for a photographer. This will mean coming on short notice, and bringing someone with you who can help hold and calm the new dog so you can get a good shot. A good picture is KEY for great placement. It will make a huge difference for us.

5) We are looking for some board members. We need someone who is skilled in money, some one who would like to coordinate our volunteers, and someone who would like to do some administrative work helping to track our applicants.
</smile>

These two were confiscated in a raid on a hoarder’s and had never been out of a cage. When they arrived, they did not know what to do with dirt…now, they have mastered play and the other day were running around chest-bumping the other dogs, discovering long-hidden kongs, making mud with the overturned water dishes and leaping in the air when I came out into the yard.

Zeus is about 5. He is a golden/lab cross with a a very nice temperament. He loves kids and other dogs. He was with a family who lost their home and had to move into an apartment that dogs not take dogs.

Zeus is playful and athletic. Would love to go running with someone. He loves going in the car and has a great attitude. He is neutered, has had all his shots, is chipped. He is crate trained. He is also a house dog. He likes to sleep on the bed <smile> and is great with kids.

He is currently with foster parents who have a house up north. He will be up there with them till after the first of the year.

Mitch is a 8month old Golden Cross came to us from the Carlsbad shelter. He was picked up by a kind samaritan after being hit by a car. He had a cut on his head which is completely healed. He also had a broken tail. That has healed as well.

He is absolutely darling. Funny, sweet and affectionate. He has had his shots, is chipped. Once we get him settled in a new home, he will be neutered. He loves other dogs and people. He totally has a golden face and eyes. This is one sweet little guy. He adores Sebastian.

Mitch is VERY high energy. He LOVEs to play ball, he would be fantastic in agility class. And he would do really well with someone who goes running. This is no couch potato boy!

let me know if you want to meet this darling pup.
